Scarlett's Case — Possess & Traffic Marijuana — Withdrawn

Client:  Scarlett B., Accused
Complainants:  Undercover Officers, Toronto Police Service
Charges:  possess, possess for the purpose of trafficking, and traffic marijuana

Background:  Scarlett's boyfriend, a drug dealer, was dealing in her presence. The police believed she was acting as a look out, and arrested them both. The police found drugs on her, aggravating her situation.

Goals:  Since Scarlett was a visa student from Australia, she needed to avoid a criminal record, lest she be deported.

Strategy:  Through negotiations with the Crown, I managed to work out a deal where Scarlett performed some community service and made a charitable donation.

Results:  As a result of that diversion, all charges were withdrawn.
