Fees — How much will it cost?

Your fees will depend upon the complexity of your matter, our legal objective, and the anticipated time involved. I usually discuss fees at the end of our first meeting. The fees and services are set out in writing. Where feasible, I bill on a block-fee basis, not hourly.

Why do I use block fees? Block fees reduce uncertainty about your bill, let you assess if I'm affordable, and allow you to plan the expenditure. They also give you the comfort of knowing that you can consult me as often as you wish without additional charge.

Although I have no pre-set payment plan, I know that only a short time ago you had no idea that you would be facing this expenditure. Once we determine the cost, we will arrange a payment plan that fits your individual financial circumstances. For your convenience, I accept debit, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Are you paying the fees for my client?  If so, you cannot provide instructions, nor will you have any control over the case. Payment of my retainer comes with only two conditions: (1) the money can only be used for my services and related expenses, and (2) if there is any refund owing, I will return the unused retainer to the person who paid the money.
